Love the game, iffy about your math

I was playing level 81, when I came across the equation 78/8=19. I had to remove two matchsticks to solve and fix the equation. Now, Im no mathematician, but when I removed the 1 in 19 and it said correct, I checked the math. 78 / 8 does not equal 9. How did that one slip by?
